  But then that very process gives a very clear message: in the UK, we are obsessed with outdated irrelevancies, most specifically focused on that brief period of a few centuries during which we were an important nation, mostly as a result of pure dumb luck. Or at least that's what we're politically mandated to feel. If you can get through the test but do it with withering sarcasm, then you're British as far as I'm concerned.
